Publication Ethics Statement

The Kentucky Undergraduate Journal for the Health Humanities follows the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Responsibilities of Authors and Contributors

KUJHH uses COPE’s definition of authorship as individuals or groups “making a substantial contribution to the work and being accountable for the work and its published form.” Authors represent and warrant that their contributions are original and that they have taken reasonable care to ensure that all statements in their contribution purporting to be factual are true; that their contribution is not defamatory or obscene; and that it does not violate any right of privacy, civil or common law, or statutory copyright or other personal or property rights. Authors should not submit the same manuscript for consideration by more than one journal at the same time. Authors must cite all appropriate sources. If the author becomes aware of a factual inaccuracy or other significant error in their work, they must work with the journal’s editor to resolve the issue.

Data and Reproducibility

Policies around data availability and reproducibility are included on the submission guideline pages of individual journals where this is relevant. Authors should be prepared to share datasets upon which their articles are based with the journal’s editors if asked.

Artificial Intelligence

Using ChatGPT, or any other form of AI, is considered plagiarism by KUJHH. Please refrain from using AI, and submit your own original and creative scholarly work.

Conflicts of Interest

Authors, faculty reviewers, and the executive board must disclose any conflicts of interest to the journal’s editor. Potential reviewers should decline to review work where they have a conflict of interest.

Editorial Responsibilities

All publication decisions are the responsibility of the executive committee or faculty editors. The faculty editors are tasked with maintaining editorial principles and practices that conform to the conventions in their field. Editorial decisions are made following rigorous, fair, and timely peer review. Further information about the peer review process and manuscript submission requirements for each journal is available under the Policies and Guidelines section. The composition of the faculty editorial reviewers and the executive committee is available in the Editorial Board section.

Errors and Corrections

KUJHH's rigorous faculty review practices are designed to detect and resolve errors or instances of authorial misconduct prior to publication. Occasionally, however, it may be necessary to correct a published article. When notified of possible errors or corrections, the editor(s) of the journal will review and resolve them in consultation with the executive committee and according to the KUJHH's best practices. In all cases, the guiding principle followed by KUJHH is to preserve the integrity of the scholarly version of the record. Any post-publication corrections are clearly indicated to readers of the original work.

HIPPA

KUJHH adheres to legal and ethical guidelines that are set forth by the academic and health communities. All submitters must maintain patient privacy and confidentiality in order to create a respectful environment. All submitters must review and adhere to the guidelines set forth in the Health Information Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
