Description

Having overseen policies for countering food crises in his home country, Mansholt sought to create a common European agricultural policy. With the establishment of the European Economic Community, he would become the Commissioner for Agriculture and eventually create the Mansholt Plan, which called for the modernization of farmers. His plan has been noted as being important for European self-sufficiency and for restoring European agriculture in a short time frame.
