The Journey to Modern Europe: Evolution of the European Union
Preview
Description
Although better known for his tenure as an officer in the British Army and as Prime Minister, he was one of the major proponents for European integration. In 1946, he gave a speech calling for a “United States of Europe,” which would prevent fighting and wars between the nations. His call to action would propel efforts to unite Europe—especially with his advocacy for the Council of Europe.
