James Russell Richardson (February 12, 1908 - January 2, 1982) was born in Berea, Kentucky to J. B. Richardson and Addie Phillips. He received an A.B. degree from Eastern Kentucky State College in 1930. He later received an LL.M. degree from Yale University in 1955. Richardson practiced law in Richmond, Kentucky between 1935 and 1945. He later taught at Stetson University, the University of Florida, and George Washington University. Richardson began teaching at the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1957. He taught Civil Procedure, Trial and Appellate Procedure, Damages, and Labor Law. Richardson retired from the College of Law in 1975. He married Elizabeth Garvin.
