Hugh Hunt Broadhurst, Sr. (July 14, 1880 - January 6, 1973) was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina to David John Broadhurst and Martha Jane Baker. Broadhurst spent a long career in the United States Army. He served in the Spanish American War, World War I, and World War II. He graduated from the United States Military Academy in 1905 and from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 1932. Broadhurst retired in 1942 at the rank of colonel. After retiring from the Army, Broadhurst served as the director of First Federal Savings and Loan in Andalusia, Alabama. Broadhurst married three times--his wives were Ethel May Lloyd (m. 1910, w. 1924), Virginia Tarrant (m. 1926, w. 1941), and Frances McKelvey (m. 1943).
