Stanley Powell (April 27, 1895 - August 17, 1987) was born in Kerby Knob, Kentucky to William Irving Powell and Sarah Jane Elder. After serving in the United States Army during World War I, Powell received an A.B. degree in 1926 and an LL.B. degree in 1930 from the University of Kentucky. Powell served as the principal of Bridgeport High School in Franklin County between his degrees. He served as a prohibition agent after receiving his LL.B.. Powell first practiced law in Covington and later moved his practice to Berea. He married Lila Attig in 1934.
