John Prentiss Lair (September 4, 1906 - May 31, 1988) was born in Cynthiana, Kentucky to Clarence Lair and Mary Robinson. Lair practiced law in Cynthiana. During World War II, he worked for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. He served as a Circuit Judge for the 18th Judicial District between 1961 and 1982. Lair married twice--his wives were Margaret Shutts (m. 1934, d. before 1952) and Hazel Slusher (m. 1952).
