Roy Robert Ray (April 21, 1902 - May 17, 1994) was born in Jackson County, West Virginia to Robert Harvey Ray and Iona Virginia Skeen. Ray graduated from Centre College before attending the University of Kentucky College of Law. He received a S.J.D. from the University of Michigan in 1930. Ray began teaching at the Southern Methodist University School of Law in 1929. He taught there until his retirement in 1970. Ray married Virginia Featherstone in 1929.
