Speaker's Bio

Dr. Les Anderson was raised on a diversified livestock and crop operation in Monroe City Missouri. After graduating with a BS in Agriculture from the University of Missouri, Dr. Anderson received his MS in Reproductive Physiology from Iowa State University and his doctorate at Ohio State University. While at Ohio State University, Dr. Anderson was heavily involved in research that focused on estrus synchronization techniques, the understanding of the onset of puberty, and postpartum rebreeding in beef cows. Dr. Anderson is currently an Extension Professor at the University of Kentucky. The major duty of this position includes statewide extension education in beef cattle with an emphasis on reproductive management. Dr. Anderson is also Chair of the Beef IRM Coordinating Committee and has been awarded over 12 million dollars to develop and conduct applied research in reproductive management and UK flagship extension educational programs like Master Cattleman, Advanced Master Cattleman, and Cow College, just to name a few. Dr. Anderson is a “boots in the dirt” Specialist and has averaged nearly 1 farm visit per day of employment. Dr. Anderson developed the UK Farm Program that enrolled 147 farms into a hands-on program to enhance management. Participants in this program increased revenue by 34% on average and is recognized as one of the most impactful Extension programs in Kentucky. Dr. Anderson’s work has been recognized locally (M. D. Whitaker Award for Outstanding Extension Specialist at UK), regionally (ASAS Southern Region Extension Award), and nationally (ASAS National Extension Award). Dr. Anderson has been married for 33 years, has 5 children ages 23-31, and two grandchildren.
