David Laws Thornton, Jr. (November 6, 1898 - April 11, 1966) was born in Versailles, Kentucky to David Laws Thornton, Sr. and Lucy F. Matthews. Thornton attended Transylvania University in the late 1910s until he served in World War I. He later completed an A.B. and B.M.E. at the University of Kentucky. Thornton practiced law in Versailles after graduating from the College of Law in 1933. He served as Woodford County Attorney, Versailles City Attorney, and Midway City Attorney. Additionally, Thornton served as chairman of the board, director, and vice president of the Woodford Bank and Trust Co.. He married Susan Frances Jefferies on October 22, 1936.
