    Francis Hampton Hankes (November 3, 1900 - January 27, 1988) was born in Ashland, Kentucky to William Wallace Hankes and Sallie Hampton. Hankes first practiced law in Lexington. He later worked as an attorney in the United States Department of Agriculture, where he was employed as Chief of the Claims Branch in the Fiscal Division of Agricultural Stabilization. Hankes married Mabel Irene Lewis on August 26, 1931.
