Henry Clay Johnson, Sr. (December 29, 1894 - August 17, 1999) was born in Buckhorn, Kentucky to John Johnson and Tennessee Dotson. Johnson first graduated from Berea College. After receiving his LL.B., he practiced law in Perry County. He served terms as Perry County attorney and Letcher County attorney. Johnson primarily worked as an insurance attorney for the Bituminous Casualty Co. in Kentucky and later moved to Virginia to work for the company. He married Kathryn Stickley in 1927.
