    John Gregory Bruce (February 16, 1897 - December 4, 1985) was born in Indiana to John Bruce, Jr. and Nancy Moore. Bruce received an A.B. degree from Transylvania University in 1921. He graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1924 and began practicing law in Pineville. In 1934, Bruce began working as an attorney for the United States Department of Justice. He served in several other federal departments over the next 18 years. In 1952, he was nominated by President Truman for a judgeship on the United States Tax Court. Bruce retired from this position in 1967 but was recalled for further duties immediately following his retirement. He married Zilpha Foster in 1930.
