John Ransom Bays (December 15, 1879 - April 30, 1949) was born in Floyd County, Kentucky to John W. Bays and Elizabeth Spradling. Bays worked as a traveling salesman before attending the University of Kentucky. He later worked as a clerk for the United States Government, in addition to practicing law in Lexington. Bays worked for the Veterans Administration before his death. He married Mary Kansas Alfrey in 1905.
