Description

Prior to 2003 dairy farms in Washington state were required by law to have a certified nutrient management plan that was nitrogen-based. In early 2003, the national Environmental Protection Agency released new Concentrated Animal Feeding Operation guidelines to require that nutrient management plans consider phosphorus as well. To better prepare producers and their advisers for this change, a spreadsheet-based education tool was developed in Microsoft Excel to demonstrate whole farm concepts related to nutrient balance.
