Description
Experiments were carried out to estimate the feeding value and the rate of undigested excretion of starch in grain and ammoniated straw (AS) of paddy at the dough and the ripe stage. The plant material used was Matsuyama Mii, a late variety. Materials and experimental animals for the digestion trial were rough rice and AS, and sheep, respectively. In chemical composition, each content of crude fat (CF) and crude ash (CA) of the ripe rough rice (RRR) was higher than that of the dough rough rice (DRR), and moreover, each content of CF and CA of AS at the dough stage (DS) was higher than that of one at the ripe stage (RS). CF, nitrogen free extract (NFE) and crude fiber digestibilities were higher and crude protein (CP) digestibility was lower in DRR than in RRR. CP, NFE and crude fiber digestibilities were higher and CF digestibility was lower in AS at RS than in one at DS. In comparisons with digestible nutrients between DRR iind RRR, DCP content of the former was lower than that of the latter, but TDN content showed the contrary tendency. In DCP and TDN content between AS at DS and one at RS, each value of the former was lower than that of the latter. Each rate of undigested excretion of starch in DRR and RRR, and AS at DS and AS at RS was 3.14, 1.38, 1.46 and 3.54%, respectively. It is concluded that DCP content of RRR is higher than that of DRR, and DCP and TDN contents are higher in AS at RS than in one at DS, and moreover, the rate of undigested excretion of starch is higher in DRR than in RRR, and is higher in AS at RS than in one at DS.
