Slide Notes: General items in UK Special Collections. Slave quarters at White Hall. Home of Cassius Marcellus Clay. Green Clay, one of the wealthiest men in Kentucky, built White Hall in 1798. He was the father of Cassius Marcellus Clay. In the early 1800s, the slave quarters were built of stone behind the main house. The slaves also lived in the basement of White Hall where they had tried to escape by digging a tunnel.
