Description
The Shipp family were free African Americans in Cincinnati, OH. Ellen Shipp, the mother, was from Kentucky. One of their sons was famed singer, actor, playwright, stage manager, Jesse A. Shipp, Sr. Two of his more recognized plays focus on African nations Dahomey and Abyssenia (Ethiopia). Their grandson, Jesse A. Shipp, Jr. founded Shipp Association, a dramatic booking agency in Harlem, NY.
