Description
Peter White was a noted jockey of Leslie Combs. Peter White was actually a slave. He was born near Vera Cruz, Mexico, and had been brought to Kentucky with the returning Kentucky Volunteers who fought in the Mexican-American War, 1846-1848. It was not until he was in Kentucky that Peter White realized he was a slave. He was freed with the other slaves in Kentucky with the Ratification of the 13th Amendment.
