How to Install a Home Garden Drip Irrigation
Abstract
The design of a simple drip irrigation system for a vegetable garden will be provided using a step-by-step approach that illustrates general design principals, a description of all irrigation components and installation procedures. General design principals will include the size of garden area that can be watered from a standard hose bib faucet (as a single zone), methods to expand the garden area through multiple watering zones, sizing hoses and pipes, general layout of a garden to increase water distribution efficiency and how to determine watering time and frequency of watering. All irrigation components will be explained encompassing a hose bib vacuum breaker (to prevent backflow), pressure reducer, type of pipes and pipe layout, drip irrigation options (drip line versus individual emitters) and irrigation fittings. Irrigation installation and maintenance procedures will be illustrated and irrigation system operations will be taught.
