Description
James Hembray Wilson, Sr., from Nicholasville, KY, was a noted musician and band director. He was a cornet player and a noted soloist, composer, conductor, and music professor at Alabama A&M College. The James Hembray Wilson Building on the campus was named in his honor. During his earlier career, James H. Wilson, Sr. was a musician in minstrels such as Jacob Litt’s In Old Kentucky, Al Martin’s Uncle Tom’s Cabin; and Mahara’s Minstrels. James Hembray Wilson, Sr. died in Normal Alabama.
