"Let’s Dance: Yesterday’s African American Entertainers from Kentucky" was a lecture presented by Reinette F. Jones on April 8, 2021. It was part of the Spring 2021 semester’s Donovan Forum Series hosted by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of Kentucky.
In this presentation only eight persons are highlighted. But let it be noted that the state of Kentucky has made major contributions to the entertainment industry in the United States and abroad. There have been hundreds of African Americans from Kentucky who contributed toward keeping the auditoriums filled with a satisfied audience. The performers have been singers, dancers, actors and actresses, musicians, playwrights, song writers, bandleaders, comics, and various other forms of entertainment. The performers were also activists and fighters who faced racial controversy in their careers while making a better way for those who followed. The consistent thread among them all is the Kentucky connection that was many times used to pull one another up and buoy the soul at the next level.
