Description
Manufacturing of LEED Sustainable Building Materials from Previously Landfilled Off-Spec Fly Ash Authors Mr. Randall Stremmel - United States - Pittsburgh Mineral and Environmental Technology Abstract This speech highlights the groundbreaking work of Brixx Technology in developing a patented process for producing sustainable building materials using previously landfill off-spec fly ash. Through extensive research and development, Brixx Technology has successfully demonstrated the viability of its technology through lab bench testing, a pilot plant, and a mass production facility in India. This paper focuses on their newly established facility in Ohio, where the innovative process transforms landfilled coal combustion residuals (CCR) into Brixx blocks, aggregates, and other materials, serving as a sustainable substitute for traditionally manufactured products. The performance of the manufactured materials has been thoroughly evaluated through mechanical testing, resulting in outstanding outcomes. Ohio has recognized the quality and suitability of the final product, accepting it as an approved material for all ODOT projects. This recognition signifies the trust and credibility the Brixx Technology process has garnered in the industry. Production of these sustainable building materials by Brixx Technology is accomplished at competitive market rates while maintaining comparable mechanical properties and significantly reducing manufacturing costs. By effectively repurposing previously landfill fly ash, Brixx Technology reduces waste. It enables the construction industry to meet LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standards, promoting environmental sustainability.
