Located in the state of Michigan, Isle Royale National Park is a remote, isolated island archipelago in the northwest section of Lake Superior. It is a rugged wilderness offering visitors solitude, scenic trails, and a variety of water-based recreation. This unique federal park preserves 132,018 acres of land and consists of a total 850 square mile area including submerged land. Designated as an International Biosphere Reserve, Isle Royale is a unique ecosystem containing only 19 mammal species with a fascinating wolf and moose population worthy of further study. Interestingly, Isle Royale is home to the longest running large mammal predator-prey study on earth.
