Gilbert Langdon Bailey (July 10, 1871 - March 5, 1937) was born in Zanesville, Ohio to John Ward Bailey and Clara Langdon. Bailey graduated from the Ohio Medical College at the University of Cincinnati and also studied medicine at Heidelberg University in Germany. He was a physician and surgeon in Cincinnati and Chicago before retiring from medicine in the late 1910s. After receiving his LL.B. from the University of Kentucky in 1928, Bailey worked as a director of the Fayette County Farm Bureau. He married Margaret Boyd in 1898. Their son, Boyd Langdon Bailey, attended the UK College of Law and received his LL.B. in 1926.
