John Young Brown, Sr. (February 1, 1900 - June 16, 1985) was born in Union County, Kentucky to Jesse Brown and Lucy Keeper. Brown first attended Centre College and graduated from that institution in 1921. He practiced law in Lexington after graduating from the University of Kentucky in 1926. Brown served several terms in the Kentucky General Assembly's House of Representatives representing multiple districts. He served during the following years: 1930-1933, 1946-1948, 1954-1956, 1962-1964, and 1966-1968. Brown served one term in the United States House of Representatives between 1933-1935. Brown married Dorothy Inman in 1929. The couple divorced in 1973. Their son, John Young Brown, Jr., also graduated from the University of Kentucky College of Law. Brown, Jr. was later elected as the 55th Governor of Kentucky.
