Emmet Presley Hatter, Sr. (August 6, 1894 - February 9, 1987) was born in Franklin, Kentucky to David Hatter and Ella Nora Cushenberry. Hatter received a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Kentucky in 1917. He received his LL.B. from the university four years later. Hatter practiced law in Franklin with G.W. Roark after graduation. He served terms as Simpson Circuit Court Master Commissioner and as Simpson County attorney. Hatter married twice--his wives were Annie Laura Rhoads (m. 1917) and Margaret Maynard Jones (m. 1958).
