John Marion Hewitt (April 11, 1899 - May 24, 1938) was born in Indiana to Prentice Hewitt and America Hunt. Hewitt briefly returned to Indiana after graduating from the College of Law. In 1921, he moved to Oswego, Kansas to work as the deputy Register of Deeds in the Oswego District Clerk's office. He then worked at the Deming Investment Company. He was admitted to the Kansas bar in 1924 and began practicing law in Oswego shortly after. He served as assistant county attorney for several years. In 1928, he became Oswego city attorney and held that position until his death in 1938. He married Leota Hoffman in 1926.
