    Samuel Preston Reed (January 4, 1879 - March 19, 1945) was born in Powell County, Kentucky to George M. Reed and Matilda Murray. The Reed family moved to Scott County and Samuel then attended the University of Kentucky. After graduation, he worked in Scott County as an agent for the Kentucky Central Life and Accident Insurance Company until his death in 1945. Reed married Edna Browning McCall.
