Description

At evaluation of Gliricidia sepium provenances was conducted in Bali for 3 years on a calcareous-based red-brown Mediternn soil at a lowland site with 1000 mm annual rainfall. Fifteen provenances representing diverse geographical regions in Latin America were compared with an Indonesian provenance using a randomised block design. Plants were grown in alleys 4 m apart with plants spaced at 0.5 m apart within the alley. All the plants were cut at 150 cm height periodically, twice during the 4-month wet season and twice during the 8-month dry season. Significant differences were found between provenances for leaf and branch production, Provenances also showed variation in leaf retention, aphid infestation and branch distribution, The most promising provenances originated from Guatemala and Nicaragua.
