Description

Prom 1987 to 1989 the effects of N, P, K and S fertilisers on the yields of clean seed and dry matter (DM) production of Setaria sphacelala cv. Narok were studied. The yield of clean seed and DM produced by Narok setaria was significantly and positively related with the levels of urea applied. The main factor which increased the yield of clean seed was an increase in head density. The highest clean seed yields of Narok setaria were 710, 320 and 370 kg/ha in 1987, 1988 and 1989, respectively, from the same experimental plots afler an application of 350 kg urea+ 500 kg fused calcium magnesium phosphate + 200 kg potassium sulphate/ha every year at the start of the wet season. These results were obtained without irrigation from the rainfed stand at Xiaoshao Model Beef Parm (25°30'N, 2000 m asl) in the mid-altitude zone of Yunnan province. The addition of urea, potassium sulphate and basal P fertilisers was highly economic.
