Description
A phenotypic selection programme followed by half-sib family evaluation is being used for the improvement of perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne L.). Plants have been identified with resistance to bncley yellow dwncf luteovirus, ryegrass mosaic potyvirus and crown rust. Seedling vigour and seasonal growth have been improved relative to standard cultivars. Further evaluation of progeny performance will lead to the development of improved cultivars for Australia.
