Description
Under Mediterranean climatic conditions and systems of Agriculture, cereals are important contributors to animal feeding. They are, in general more drought and cold resistant than forage legumes. Barley in particular is a very important forage crop because of its reliability and versatility. As interest in livestock increases in this area, fodder production becomes more and more important. The limited rainfall makes it difficult to get away from cereals and they will, for a long time to come, continue to be a major source of grazing, freshly cut forage, hay, silage and grain-straw.
