Description

Agriculture in Japan has generally consisted in paddy-based small - scale farming. Japan has not had a tradition of large­scale grassland farming as have European countries and others. Nevertheless, grassland farming was introduced after World War 2 (Nikki, 1981). Generous technical assistance from FAO had been given to the Japanese government during 1955-1963. Hence, an almost stable forage system was established by 1985, although some problems still remained to be solved. The devel­opment of technology over the last 30 years has been amply studied in the literature. A comparison of this with that of Asian countries was made
