Description

Cattle production on tropical tallgrass pastures of northwest Australia is limited by the poor quality of the forage. Sodium levels are inadequate throughout the year and N, P and S concentrations are below critical values for good animal growth after the first 4-6 weeks of the wet season. Thus, stocking rates and liveweight gains are low ( < 50 kg/annum) despite 18-26 weeks of pasture growth (McCown, 1982).This paper reports the results of 3 experiments which use different options to improve cattle production in this region.
