The observations recorded from over four hundred protein extractions from hybrid Napier grass, cultivated under different field conditions, were subjected to statistical analysis to study the extractability of protein through simple mathematical equations. Of the nine parameters considered, the moisture content of the plant had major influence on the percent extractability of protein and yield of fibre feedstuff. The extractability of protein nitrogen was negatively correlated while the yield of fibre was positively correlated with the mean temperature of the day on which the processing was carried out. Using these regression equations it should be possible to predict the yield of leaf protein from fresh hybrid Napier grass before processing.
