Description
Very little is known about the compare of mineral absorption between alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) and orchardgrass (Dactylis glomerata L.) grown on same soil condition in Hokkaido. The objective of this study was to compare the longterm effects of nutritious specificity for species of the absorption of mineral elements. The soils used were Nopporo diluvial, Shinotsu alluvial, Uenai pumice volcanic,. and Bibai peat soil. Alfalfa and orchardgrass were grown on these soils with eight different fertilizer regimes, namely, barnyard manure and NPK, NPK, PK, NK, NP, NPK with sulphur, NPK with chloride and control {nil fertilizer). The treatment have applied for five years. Both plants were harvested at first flower stage of alfalfa. The herbage and the soils were analyzed for macro and micro mineral nutrients of plants and mammal, that is, N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, and Na of macro nutrients, and Mn, Cu, Zn, Co, and Se of micro nutrients were analyzed. The yields were higher in orchard grass, but the nitrogen concentration was higher in alfalfa, therefore amount of nitrogen absorbed was much more in alfalfa than in orchard grass. The concentrations of Ca of alfalfa were higher than in orchardgrass, while the concentrations of Si in orchardgrass were higher than in alfalfa. The concentrations of other macro nutrients included Na were slightly difference between both plants. The concentrations of Mn were higher in orchardgrass than in alfalfa. The concentrations of other micro nutrients, namely Cu, Zn, Co, .and Se were slightly difference between both plants.
