Description
The experiment was carried out to search the fate of 15N-labelled fertilizer nitrogen applied at different time of the year
on bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum) f.asture to know how fertilizer nitrogen is used effectively according to the season. Ammonium chloride labelled with 1.N (10.3 atom%) was applied on 12, Sept. 151982 (autumn application), 18, Apr. 1983 (spring application) and 14, Jul. 1983 (summer application) respectively. Fate 15of N was traced for a year in each treatment. Most of tsN loss from soil-plant system occurred withi two months after N application for each treatment. Also, much of 1sN recovered in plant was found within two months. i,N recovered by the plant was 48-52%, 39-44%, and 17-21 % for autumn, spring and summer application respectively. On the other hand, Joss of 15N from soil plant system was in the order of summer 15application>spring application>autumn application.15 Ditribution of N in plant parts differed with the time of N absorption. Much 15of 15N absorbed in summer application distributed in plant tops relatively for a short period. Contrarily, a large part of N absorbed in autumn application was retained in stolon and stubble until the beginning of the top growth in next spring.
