Description
The utilization of grassland in Japan dates to fairy old times, but its real improvement in terms of industry did not start until the termination of the World War II. As the climatic conditions in Japan differ very much from those of European coutries, the style of grassland farming in Japan is somewhat different from that of Europe. The improvement of grassland farming in Japan after the World War II was divided into four stages, according to the tendency of the number of cattle and the acreage of forage crops. The Japanese Society of Grassland Science was established in 1954. The number of the reports published in the respective investigation fields of the Journal in each period was shown in the table. The contributions of some of these works to the grassland farming were mentioned. The future of grassland farming in Japan was viewed and the role of grassland science was emphasized.
