Chair: Dr. Erin N. Haynes
Welcome to the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health.
Epidemiology & Environmental Health is the foundation of public health research and evidenced-based practice. Epidemiologists study of the distribution, patterns and causes of adverse health outcomes – as well as how to control disease and prevent poor health. The field of Epidemiology & Environmental Health also examines the complex interaction of factors including lifestyle, age, and influences from the environment.
What do we do? We identify factors that would make the world a better place. Epidemiologists work with teams of scientists and community members to identify why diseases are spreading, how to stop and prevent them. Ultimately, epidemiology saves lives.
What do we offer? At the University of Kentucky College of Public Health, we offer training at the undergraduate, master, and doctoral level. Our students receive hands-on experience working with faculty on research studies focused on fields such as cancer prevention and survival, substance abuse, cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, environmental health, and occupational exposures.
The Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health was known as the Department of Epidemiology before July 1, 2022.
