Abstract
Popular conceptions of Appalachia, built of images of conservative, straight, white, rural folks, often erase its minoritized population. This short story and poem cycle pairs poems and stories that center on defiant women and queer Appalachian men in the imaginary town of Mosely, Kentucky and the ways in which their relationships to each other and themselves matter in the larger context of their world. The stories and poems are paired in such a way so as to confront the trust we place in single narratives to say anything definitive about a person and their relationship to the world.
