Abstract
This is a collection centered on the love, angst, and tensions within non-nuclear and multicultural families. These short stories examine racism, gender roles, emotional neglect, and physical abandonment. Each character wrestles with the concepts of selfhood and self-worth in the face of censorship and sacrifice for the sake of the status quo. This collection and its characters are concerned with the intersections of identity—how a family is constructed from and deconstructed by individuals, and how external expectations and internal consciousness affect the sense of self within and without the family unit.
