Additional Notes

“Lady Day at the Emerson Bar and Grill,” 1999 : The performance was an Actors' Guild of Lexington production with Cissy Williams as Billie Holiday, and Buzz Cornelison as pianist Jimmy Powers. The play is set in 1959, four months before Billie Holiday’s death. Billie Holiday (1915-1959), a jazz singer and songwriter, was openly bisexual, a fact that is often overlooked in writings about her life and music.
