Description
Alfalfa is the main forage species used in the dairy farms of the Central Valley of Mexico. Low temperatures and solar radiation during winter have been associated to the lower yields of alfalfa pastures from late fall to the end of winter. Winter pastures as annual ryegrass, small grains and common vetch can overcome the seasonal low yields of alfalfa (Victoria, 1981). Use of common vetch to provide high yields of herbage of good quality during winter has been increasing; however, availability of seed is limited. In addition, there is little published information on management of common vetch pastures for herbage and seed production. The objective of this study was to determine herbage and seed production of common vetch at different seeding rates and dates.
