Nine forage-cow-calf systems with constant ,stocking but variable grazing pressures to pro­vide for changing nutritional needs of beef cows, and continuous high calf nutrition with creep grazing gave similar high weaning weights of autumn and winter calves for all-year grazing vs. hay feeding and for 2 stocking rates. The all-fescue systems lowered calf weights. variable stocking (71, constant stocking rates were used for systems, but grazing pressures were varied within systems to control nutri­tion: high and low grazing pressures giving low and high nutrition respectively [2, 5]. Variable nutrition for cows (good before calv­ing, during breeding, and until calves were 4 months old; and then low nutrition) resulted in efficient use of forage and did not depress growth of calves having access to high-quality forage [I, 2).
