Description
The utilization of silage nitrogenous compounds by ruminants depends to a great degree on the fermentation level of silage. When the fermentation level is high, the crude protein fraction contains high amounts of soluble nitrogenous compounds and the sugar content is low, the utilization of nitrogenous compounds decreases. The soluble carbohydrate supplements, especially sugar, fed together with silage, can in this case improve their utilization. When the fermentation level of silage is low, the beneficial effect of sugar on the utilization of silage protein is less.
