Executive Director: Gene Wilhoit

The Center for Innovation in Education, housed at the University of Kentucky as part of the UK College of Education, was founded in 2013 with support from the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. CIE strives to be a national voice to build consensus around a new, more coherent vision of education.

The CIE supports states and local partners taking on the task of shifting a hugely complex system from an orientation on schooling to an orientation on learning. We support the movement towards personalized, competency-based systems designed for deeper learning. We approach our work through essential questions and support innovators who are testing solutions in a number of ways.
