Irrigation is an important measure to supplement and adjust inadequate and unbalanced precipitations on rangeland. The aim of this paper is to study the effect of irrigation on rangeland, the suitable period or watering and the best soil moisture range to obtain fine herbage. The test was completed in an experimental field in Balingyou Banner, Inner Mongolia. The plot with an area of 35 hectares belongs to arid grassland. Due to overgrazing for a long time in the past, the field was dominated by poisonous plants e.g. Scutellaria aviscidela, Convolvulus ammanni and Lapula echinata, which are not eatable for animals.
