Description

Material and processing characteristics are essential initial values for planning of proce­dures in industrialized crop production. From the technological stages and process sequences from grass mowing to removing the silage, the following key operations can be derived: chop­ping,. compressing, storing, and removing. For adequate planning of procedures it is necessary to determine the quantitative relations between the essential factors: chopper throughput, pro­portion of short chop, crude fibre content, and relative final density. A relation suitable for practical application and providing sufficient accuracy is established for estimating the mean dry matter content of a trailer load. If high­quality silage is to be obtained, favourable conditions of fermentation must be looked after. With a view of reaching optimum densi­ties of material in silos, the functional relation between density of stored material, height difference to feed stock surface, proportion of short chop, and dry matter content is of essential importance. The equation suggested reflects the influence of the different factors. The quantitative dependence of the throughput of tower silo unloaders on short chop propor­tion and silage dry matter content is expressed by an equation.
