Description

The effect of zinc, copper, molybdenum and cobalt exerted on the development, yield and quality of various cultivated plants is favourable in many ways. Our studies of their application in the nutrition of luceme in a pot experiment and field trials on chernozem soil were carried out to determine the effect of the above micro­elements on the yield, development and quality of lucerne hay, when applied togeµier with NPK fertilizers. The results of our experiments have shown that the application of these microelements, especially of zinc and copper, together with NPK fertilizers resulted in considerable increase of lucerne hay yields as compared to exclusive fertilization.with NPK. The application of the microelements, es­pecially of zinc, resulted in a better develop­ment of the above-ground parts of plants as well as in better flowering and fruit bearing, whereas copper and molybdenum produced a positive effect on the development of leaves. Molybdenum and zinc exerted a positive in­fluence on the development of the root system, especially the development of rhizobia. As compared to the control, these micro­elements brought about a distinct improvement of the chemical composition of luceme, es­pecially of the hay quality.
